Head lice are small insects up to the 3mm long and are very common with small children. Head lice eggs are brown or white (when empty). Despite rumour, it is not a sign of kids having dirty hair. Kids tend to spread them easily due to constant physical contact with other kids.
You need to treat headlice as soon as you discover your child has them. There are a few ways to deal:
a. wet combing: wash the hair with shampoo anbd lots of conditioner and then comb through with a fine tooth nit comb (you can buy these from most phamacies). This will need repeating over 2-3 weeks every 3-4 days;
b. lotions and sprays. There are a number of pharmacy and over the counter lotions. Follow the instructions!
