CURE AND TREATMENT
FURTHER INFORMATION
Contagious viral infection that was common before the introduction of the MMR vaccine.
Usually involves swelling in the side of the face. Other symptons can include headaches, high temperature and joint pain.
Contact your GP (but tell them in advance of visiting the surgery so they can take steps to limit contagion). There is no specific cure for mumps other than time. Ibuprofen or paracetamol and a warm/cool compression on the swollen areas will reduce pain. Aspirin should not be given to children under 16.
