FURTHER INFORMATION

Rubella (or German measles) is a rare disease that causes a spotty rash and other symptoms.

Rash can follow a few weeks after contracting the disease. Other than the rash, other symptoms include high temperature, cough, runny nose, aches and pains in the wrist, fingers or knees, cough, sore eyes and/or throat.

Rubella usually takes about 1 week to get better. Main thing is to take plenty of fluids, paracetamol or ibuprofen (no aspirin if the child is under 16). Really important that any child stays away from school for at least 5 days from when the rash appears.
